Preparatory courses build the academic skills necessary for university level study. Preparatory courses cannot be included in or credited toward a degree program subsequently undertaken at the ANU.

Bridging courses are also available and successful completion will meet the prerequisite entry requirements for undergraduate programs. We advise applicants who don't currently meet their desired program prerequisites to apply for a similar program and then request a program transfer at enrolment after completing the bridging course.

Available courses

ANU accepts a limited number of preparatory and bridging programs run by other institutions.

Preparatory

Some examples of accepted preparatory courses are listed below. If your desired preparatory course isn't listed, please contact domestic.admissions@anu.edu.au with the full name of the course alongside the institution you intend to study with for confirmation as to whether this course is accepted for admission.

  • TAFE NSW Tertiary Preparation Course
  • University of New South Wales (UNSW) University Preparation Program
  • University of Newcastle Open Foundation Course
  • University of Wollongong College University Access Program

ANU Extension also provides an enhanced learning experience for year 11 and 12 students in ACT schools and colleges. Courses in Conservation Biology, Chemistry, Japanese, Specialist Mathematics, and Physics, help to prepare students for entry into university study.

Bridging

How to apply

If you are also required to complete the STAT, you must register directly with the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) in advance.
