Beyond the classroom

Travel & internships

ANU offers high-achieving students a range of interesting opportunities to extend their academic experience beyond the lecture theatre.

There are programs that take students around Australia and the world as part of their studies such as the Student Mobility Program and internship programs, which add value to an ANU degree. Opportunities are also available for students wishing to undertake short-term studies with our IARU partners.

Scholarships

The University offers many scholarships for undergraduate, graduate coursework, and research students. Some scholarships are merit-based to recognise high-achieving students, others are equity-based to assist students who may otherwise find it difficult to attend university. Please see the scholarships section for the various scholarships that are available.

Student exchange

The ANU Student Mobility Program gives students the opportunity to study a semester of their degree at one of over 100 partner universities across Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific. Studying overseas as part of your degree provides opportunity for academic, personal and social rewards, adding value to your ANU experience. As an exchange student you can immerse yourself in an alternative culture, gain a global perspective and build international networks that can open and diversify future career options.

The Australian National Internships Program

The Australian National Internships Program (ANIP) is an elite program offering students the opportunity to undertake an internship with a Federal Member of Parliament or senator, in a public policy focused institution, or non-government organisation.

For any student considering a career in policy, government, politics, or a variety of other fields, the internships program is the perfect opportunity to begin networking and learn invaluable skills.

IARU Global Summer Program

The Global Summer Program offers students from IARU (International Alliance of Research Universities) institutions the opportunity to study together during the northern hemisphere summer in specially designed intensive short courses. Global Summer Program courses allow students to benefit from a powerful, intercultural and dynamic program, and enhance their educational experience with courses drawing on the strengths of member institutions and the resources of their environments.

The Vice-Chancellor's Courses

The Vice-Chancellor's Courses epitomise what makes ANU a world-renowned university. They:

  • allow students to demonstrate their best work
  • involve active discovery and research
  • are inherently interdisciplinary in terms of content, teaching staff and enrolled students; and
  • involve ANU researchers from across a wide range of disciplines sharing cutting edge research with students

Teaching in these courses is innovative, taking its excellence from students as well as teachers. The courses are for highly motivated students who will become leaders in their chosen careers.
